x-RD delivered a real-time flight visualisation application for a Defence client, rendering 3D models of commercial and military aircraft on a dynamic map powered by live geospatial data.

The Defence client required a showcase application for an innovation facility with a limited budget and timeframe.
x-RD designed and developed a live, non-interactive application that extracted Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) data from the area surrounding the Canberra airport and plotted the ADS-B data in CesiumJS, which integrated with 3D mapping data.
Aircraft data from ADS-B was matched with aircraft types and 3D models of the respective aircraft. These were then displayed on an interactive 3D geospatial representation, which included different views of the aircraft being tracking, the available flight meta data, and the projected flight path based on the ADS-B data.
The showcase 3D application was delivered and provided to the client in four months and made available through the innovation facility for visitors.
