Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) application development
x-RD developed several ISR exemplar applications and an analytical platform for an Australian Department of Defence client.
Challenge
Defence ISR capabilities generate large amounts of diverse sensor data that need to be processed, analysed, fused and enriched with other data to support modern intelligence requirements. The automated processing of the ISR data is challenging due to the scale and types of data.
x-RD was engaged to design and deliver several advanced ISR applications to automate processing and management of large quantities of diverse sensor and reference data, in support of advanced ISR use cases.
Solution
x-RD used an agile delivery approach and coordinated with other Defence stakeholders, vendors and users to build several software systems to assist with project definition and reduce technical risks. These included:
- An advanced multi-intelligence fusion platform. The solution combined a modern object database with an intuitive user interface allowing users to fuse intelligence information from a variety of sources to entities of interest and track those entities in time and space.
- A computer vision processing pipeline that automated the build of engineered and performant machine learning (ML) models for processing tasks.
- An operational ISR analytical platform to support analyst applications, data engineering, data management and information discovery.

These enabled project capability validation and cost estimation for scaled system design and development.
