x-RD rapidly delivered a modern, secure and accessible Cargo Visibility System (CVS) replacement of a legacy global freight distribution application for Defence, providing increased reliability, reduced operating costs, and integration with Defence’s ERP program.

Through its logistics supply chains, Defence manages more than 70 million items across 547 geographically dispersed locations. The Cargo Visibility System (CVS) provides Defence with consignment and manifest management and freight visibility between freight distribution centres domestically and includes distribution to and from deployed ADF locations.
Defence engaged x-RD to analyse and replace the legacy CVS application with a modern web application capable of integration with Defence’s ERP solution.
The original CVS was a mission-critical, legacy, military application that was being sustained at high cost to Defence. The application had minimal change management processes and documented business requirements and had experienced numerous undocumented updates over its 30-year life.
x-RD reverse engineered the legacy application to map business and user requirements and engaged with military and civilian Defence personnel as well as logistics suppliers to gather and validate system requirements and design.
Applying an agile project management approach, x-RD designed, developed, and deployed the new, secure, and accessible CVS 2.0 web application in 12 months, providing a performant system, an enhanced user experience and simplified processes.
Following deployment of CVS 2.0, x-RD was requested by Defence to create an ERP-compatible version, capable of integrating CVS 2.0 with ERP, while maintaining performance and at a significantly reduced operating cost.
Processes more than 500 cargo manifests, calculations, and labels per day.
Moves over 45,000 kg of military equipment every day.
